One Heart, One Soul

Opening School Mass: Salesian Reflection
Dylan Galloway
St. Francis de Sales School, Class of 2025

Hello, my name is Dylan Galloway many of you may know me as Big D. I am the Student Body President for the 2024-25 school year. Today I am here to talk about why I chose St. Francis and my time here.

My story starts a bit differently, I was given the option between St. Francis or St. Johns. For me, this was a hard decision, with none of my family going to either school. With my Dad being the basketball coach at NDA many families asked me where I was going to school, but I always felt it was more people trying to convince me to go to St. Johns. From listening to other people's experiences at St. Johns, I always imagined myself going there. I remember the only person who talked about St. Francis was Mrs. Clark who is Mr. Tyler Clark's mom and she told me about the Brotherhood.

At the time I was confused about what the Brotherhood was, but when I finally shadowed at St. Francis, during the football season, it was obvious. That day, felt and saw something I had never experienced before. It was how all the guys would talk and act like brothers, like a family in hallways and in the classrooms, and the teachers were there for the guys when they needed them. I could feel the bond between students and teachers as well as students and students. That is when I saw the Brotherhood that Mrs. Clark had told me about.

When I left 2323 West Bancroft Street that day, I told my parents I thought I found my home. During my time at St. Francis, I have been a part of many things including student council, multiple sports teams, and clubs that I would have never expected myself to be involved in. The majority of things went well but sometimes things did not work out as planned. However, this never worried me because I knew that no matter the outcome, my brothers would ALWAYS have my back.

Underclassmen your time here at St. Francis will fly by so enjoy every moment and try new things. For all students and alumni, we are all brothers united by this great school that we get to call home. Challenges in life will come and go but the friendships and bonds that you made and will make now will always be a part of our lives.
